Steel yards are responsible for the storage and transshipment of various types of structural steel, plates, pipes, and wire rods. Given the heavy weight of the materials, the wide variety of specifications, and the high frequency of operations, these yards place high demands on the load-bearing capacity and operational flexibility of lifting equipment. The use of stationary cranes in steel yards effectively addresses these operational characteristics, providing a stable and reliable solution for daily loading and unloading.

Fixed cranes feature a sturdy foundation, with the entire unit securely mounted on a base, eliminating the need for frequent repositioning required by mobile cranes. In steel yards, fixed cranes typically cover a fixed operating radius, enabling lifting operations at multiple storage locations within the yard. For bulk storage of steel plates, I-beams, or H-beams, the crane can be used in conjunction with electromagnetic lifting magnets or specialized lifting attachments to enable rapid loading and unloading, reducing the time required for manual hooking and unhooking and improving the efficiency of each operational cycle. Fixed cranes offer a wide range of lifting capacities, ranging from a few metric tons to several dozen metric tons, capable of meeting most steel lifting needs within the yard.

The boom luffing and slewing movements of fixed cranes are highly flexible, allowing operators to adjust the load’s drop point according to the yard layout. In steel yards, materials of different specifications are often stored in separate zones. By utilizing their slewing mechanisms, cranes can perform lifting operations over a wide range of angles, reducing the time spent on crane movement. For operations requiring the direct unloading of steel from transport vehicles to designated locations in the yard, or the loading of steel from the yard onto vehicles for shipment, fixed cranes can complete the task in a single lift, eliminating intermediate handling steps and helping to reduce material loss and operational time.

Fixed cranes also offer certain advantages in terms of operational safety. Because the equipment is permanently installed, its wind resistance is superior to that of mobile cranes of the same tonnage, allowing it to maintain stable operation even in open yard environments with strong winds. Fixed cranes are equipped with load limiters, moment limiters, and travel limit switches that automatically trigger alarms and halt operations in the event of overload or exceeding the maximum reach, thereby reducing safety risks caused by operator error. Since fixed cranes are permanently installed in the yard, operators are well-acquainted with the equipment’s performance and operational range, leading to a high level of coordination during daily operations. This helps maintain a continuous and stable operational rhythm for yard lifting operations.
